The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at 12 locations across Jammu, targeting premises linked to terrorist sympathisers as part of its investigation into the infiltration of terrorists from across the border.

The raids focused on homes of Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with offshoots and affiliates of banned terrorist organisations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), according to an NIA statement.

The infiltration case is related to a series of attacks carried out by terrorists against security forces and civilians several months ago, forming part of a broader criminal conspiracy by terror organisations to wage war against the Indian government, the statement said.

A total of 12 locations in Jammu district were searched during the operation and several incriminating materials linking terrorists with OGWs were seized. The NIA is currently analysing these materials to uncover the full extent of the terror conspiracy.

“Premises of sympathisers and cadres of these outfits were also searched as part of the action taken by the anti-terror agency,” the statement added.

The operation followed intelligence received by the NIA regarding the infiltration of LeT and JeM terrorists into India through the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC). Reports indicated that OGWs and terror associates in the border areas facilitated the infiltration by providing logistical support, food, shelter, money and guidance through difficult terrains, ensuring the safe passage of the terrorists.

The infiltrated terrorists were believed to have made their way to various districts in Jammu, including Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch and the Valley, the NIA further stated.
