Jammu, February 12

The National Student Union of India, the student wing of Congress, on Monday launched ‘Jai Jawan’ campaign against the ‘Agnipath’ scheme. J&K Congress president Vikar Rasool Wani was the chief guest for the event.

Vikar Rasool Wani alleged that the Agnipath scheme affected a large section of society, as the armed forces would not be in a position to protect the country’s vast borders, after some years. He said that country like India do not want soldiers on contract.

“Armed forces are already facing a shortage of 3 lakh soldiers. After 10 years, there will be only 10 lakh soldiers in India, out of which only 3 lakh will be regular ones. This will weaken our country. We will slip into slavery again,” Wani claimed.

“Army veterans were not consulted and Agnipath is PM Narnedra Modi’s brainchild. It has created a divide among soldiers and that is why we are today launching the Jai Jawan Mission,” said Wani.
