Officials begin election preparations in J&K

Election officials in the UT have started preparations from meeting political representatives to issuing orders for taking prior permission for political campaigns.

An official spokesperson said, Kishtwar District Election Officer (DEO) Rajesh Kumar Shavan on Saturday held a meeting with representatives from various political parties to underscore the paramount importance of upholding the highest ethical standards.

"The primary objective of the gathering was to sensitise political parties on the imperative nature of maintaining integrity, fairness and transparency throughout the electoral process," the spokesperson said.

It was learnt that deliberations during the session encompassed crucial issues such as adherence to the provisions of the model code of conduct, taking permissions for advertisements and campaign vehicles, initiation of candidate bank accounts in accordance with stipulated timelines, and other pertinent aspects vital to ensuring a just and equitable electoral environment.

In the nearby Poonch district, District Election Officer (DEO) Vikas Kundal also chaired a review meeting with all district officers to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections in the district. He also directed the officers to submit action plan regarding the election.

Kupwara DEO Ayushi Sudan called for strict implementation of model code of conduct and urged all political parties for strict adherence to the guidelines of the Election Commission.

Budgam DEO Akshay Labroo also chaired a meeting of all officers of the civil and police administration to review the implementation of the model code of conduct, in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.

In Kulgam district, the District Election Office conducted a comprehensive training session for returning officers and nodal officers. “The session aimed to equip these officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure a smooth and efficient electoral process,” the spokesperson said.
