New Delhi, June 28
Former CM Omar Abdullah has sought action against those behind alleged abduction and forcible conversion to Islam of two girls of the Sikh community in Srinagar.
Abdullah tweeted, “Any move to drive a wedge between Sikhs and Muslims in Kashmir will cause irreparable harm to J&K.”
Media reports quoted grand mufti Nasir-ul-Islam as having said, “There is no place for forcible conversion in Islam.”
In Delhi, Manjit Singh GK, international president of JAGO party, said an anti-conversion law should be promulgated in J&K where Sikh girls had been falling prey to “jihadi” elements. In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Manjit Singh GK stated that though the Article 370 had been annulled, the Sikhs in J&K were being grossly discriminated against and their plight had worsened over the years.
