Online fraud: Rs 2 lakh recovered

The cyber wings of Jammu and Rajouri police have been able to recover over Rs 2.19 lakh which were defrauded online in four separate cases.

The District Cyber Investigation Unit, Rajouri, achieved success by recovering funds valuing Rs 1,33,399 of three affected victims.

“Three different complaints of cyber crime and online fraud were received by the unit in Rajouri after which a dedicated team started its investigation into each case. The investigative efforts of the police in coordination with financial institutions resulted in making these recoveries,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the cyber wing of Jammu police recovered Rs 89,000. The cyber cell of Jammu received a complaint by a victim mentioning that he lost Rs 86,000 from his account without any knowledge of it.

“During the inquiry, it was found that the complainant often handed over his mobile phone to his driver while visiting temples or any places where it was not feasible to keep mobile phone in hand. Taking benefit of the situations, the driver, who had access to all passwords of all the digital platforms especially the banking details of the complainant, used to transact money and credit the same to the accounts of persons known to him and get it refunded to his personal account,” a police official said.

During the investigation, the cyber cell recovered Rs 86,000 from the driver of the complainant.
