The recent notification for 8,575 Class IV vacant posts has exposed the gigantic problem of unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir over 3.65 lakh unemployed youth, possessing Class X and XII pass qualification, have registered themselves with the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board’s (JKSSB) online portal so far.
According to the JKSSB notification, the online submission of applications for 8,575 posts in the district, divisional and UT cadres under the Special Recruitment Rules-2020 began on July 10 while the government has fixed August 25 as the last date for the submission of application forms.
“Till Wednesday morning, 3,65,690 registrations have been made by the candidates on the JKSSB’s online portal, since the commencement of the online application submission,” an official of the JKSSB said.
The candidates having qualification above Class XII have been debarred from participating in the 8,575 Class-IV recruitments, which are to be completed in the fast-track process. This clause has brought a lot of criticism from different quarters with political groups describing the move as “unjust and unconstitutional”.
In July last year, the UT Employment Department had conducted a process of registering all unemployed postgraduates. Though it was a voluntary process, yet over 1.5 lakh unemployed youths possessing postgraduate or higher degrees, had registered themselves with the department.
“The registration of such a large number of unemployed youth for Class IV posts, who are either Class X or Class XII passed, in just 19 days indicates that unemployment is a serious challenge for the administration. Definitely, the number will be very high as almost a month is still there for the submission of online applications,” said a senior official of UT Administration.
