Pahalgam hosts ice wall climbing competition

Pahalgam hosted the natural ice wall climbing competition in collaboration between the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports and the Pahalgam Development Authority.

The event aimed to promote adventure sports, showcasing the region’s winter activity potential. 60 participants from diverse backgrounds showcased their skills and determination in conquering Pahalgam’s challenging ice walls, an official informed.

He said that the closing ceremony and prize distribution took place on the institute premises. All participants received certificates of appreciation, a testament to their commitment to the challenging endeavor of ice wall climbing.

Zeeshan Mushtaq from Srinagar emerged as the fastest climber, receiving honours from the organisers. Mudasir Ahmad Malik and Umar Shafi Khan got the second and third position respectively. “The Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports reiterated its commitment to promoting adventure activities, encouraging youth to engage in nation-building activities,” the official said.

Colonel Hem Chandra Singh, Principal of the institute, praised the youth for their participation, highlighting the potential for adventure activities in Kashmir and how they can contribute to nation building by channelising their energies in right direction.

Participants defied harsh winter conditions, showcasing remarkable technique and determination. The competition tested mental and physical strength, pushing climbers to new heights.

“The event’s successful completion serves as a testament to the growing enthusiasm for mountaineering and winter sports in Jammu and Kashmir, inspiring young climbers to conquer challenging terrains in the future,” the official said.
