Sensing that political situation in Pakistan is drawing increasing attention in the Valley, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked Islamabad to refrain from tampering with the people’s verdict and allow former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to rule the country. Khan, a cricketer turned politician, enjoys popularity in the Valley.

Voicing his deep concern about the electoral process in Pakistan, J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina has asked the Pakistan establishment to uphold the integrity of the voting system.

Raina said it was important to respect the democratic choice of Pakistani people. “Whether the people have chosen Imran Khan or Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister, they should be allowed to govern,” Raina said. He said democracy was based on the principle of allowing those elected by the people to lead, and subsequently being judged by their performance at the ballot box.

“Overturning the will of the people is not justifiable,” he said. Raina has been repeatedly talking about the Pakistan polls while touring the Anantnag constituency.

While addressing gatherings, Raina repeatedly referred to Pakistan’s former Prime Minister as ‘Imran Khan Sahab.’ “We have apprehensions that the verdict of the people is not being honoured. We want peace in Pakistan and other places also,” Raina said.

The Anantnag-Rajouri segment, spread over both the Kashmir and Jammu regions after the controversial delimitation of 2022, is becoming a major parliamentary constituency among the five Lok Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP has initiated large-scale activities in the constituency.

The saffron party is set to organise a rally in the Anantnag constituency in the coming weeks. The party has also announced plans to construct a huge civil secretariat here.
