They said Pakistan resorted to firing on Indian posts and civilians areas and the Indian troops retaliated the firing. There was no immediate report of any causalities during the shelling.

Security officials in north Kashmir said Pakistan “without any provocation” resorted to shelling and firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Hajipeer sector of Uri. The firing started at about 5 pm.

Sources said two sides used both small and big arms, which restricted people indoors in the Silikote, Tilawadi and Churunda villages. The LoC in Kashmir has been tense following a gunfight in the Keran sector of Kupwara earlier this month which left five para commandoes and same number of militants dead.

Meanwhile, a suspected militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was arrested along with an overground worker close to the LoC in Uri.

The police said two were arrested after a “reliable input about the movement of some terrorists in Uri.”

The two were identified by the police as Zubair Ahmad Tantry, alias Abu Bakar of Baharampora, Sopore, who is an active militant of Lashkar and his associate Bilal Ahmad Rather of Sahura, Uri.

Sources said Tantry was planning to ex-filtrate to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
