Pakistan continues to violate ceasefire at LoC

For the fourth consecutive night, Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked firing at Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, Army officials said on Monday.

Army officials said during the night of April 27-28, Pakistan army posts initiated “unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts”.

Kupwara is located in north Kashmir and Poonch falls in Jammu region of the UT.

“Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively,” the Army said.

This is the fourth consecutive night when an exchange of fire has taken place at the Line of Control.

Earlier, the ceasefire violation by Pakistan took place mostly in areas of Kashmir region. This is the first time that the exchange of fire has extended to the Line of Control in Jammu region.

After last week’s Pahalgam terror attack, which left 25 tourists and a local dead, the Army has said Pakistan has violated the ceasefire many times at the Line of Control.

The growing escalation has triggered panic among locals located close to the border town. A local from north Kashmir’s Uri Sector told The Tribune that locals are hoping that the situation doesn’t escalate further.
