Ladakh Marathon, an annual mega sports event, which was scheduled for September 13, has been cancelled because of Covid-19. This was announced by its founder Chewang Motup, Director of Rimo Expeditions.
Ladakh Marathon, which takes place at an altitude of 11,000 ft and above, has emerged as one of the most prestigious high-altitude races on the marathon calendar of the world. More than 5,500 participants from different parts of the world, representing 26 countries, took part in the eighth edition of Ladakh Marathon last year.
Motup said this year it would have been the ninth edition of Ladakh Marathon. Ladakh Marathon had become a qualifying event for Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group.
