Srinagar, April 20
An organisation representing displaced Kashmiri Pandits on Monday urged the government to release Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from house detention ahead of Ramzan.
“It is in keeping with the goodwill of Ramzan that I call upon the government to release all Muslim religious leaders such as Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq, who have been in detention since the abrogation of Article 370,” chairman, Reconciliation, Return and Rehabilitation of Migrants, Satish Mahaldar said in a statement.
The fasting month is scheduled to start from April 25 subject to the appearance of the crescent.
Asserting that Mirwaiz was the “only Muslim leader who has openly advocated the return of the Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley”, Mahaldar said the Hurriyat chairman had always favoured talks to solve the Kashmir problem.
