Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has written to various political leaders, including independent MLAs, urging them to support three crucial bills introduced by PDP legislators in the J&K Assembly.
According to the party, Mufti has sent separate letters to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone, CPM’s Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, AIP’s Sheikh Khursheed, and independent MLAs of the Legislative Assembly.
“I write to you at a time when the people of Jammu and Kashmir continue to face unprecedented challenges, particularly in light of the developments since 2019,” Mufti stated in her letter.
She emphasised that the last few years have been immensely difficult for the people of J&K, who have endured political uncertainty, economic stagnation, and social distress. “Unfortunately, these hardships persist, and the collective voice of our people demands attention and meaningful action,” she wrote.
“While we may differ in political ideology and approach, I firmly believe that there are issues of common interest that transcend partisan lines,” she added.
Mufti described the three bills as “crucial.” These include: Jammu and Kashmir (Regularization & Recognition of Property Rights of Residents in Public Land) Bill, 2025; Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Special Provisions for Regularization of Adhoc, Daily Wagers, Need-Based, and Other Temporary Workers) Act, 2025; and Jammu and Kashmir Prohibition of Alcohol Bill, 2025
According to Mufti, these bills seek to address urgent concerns affecting the daily lives of the people and uphold their aspirations. “I sincerely hope that you will consider them not merely as the initiatives of one party but as steps toward addressing the collective grievances of the people we represent,” she wrote.
She assured the leaders that the PDP would extend full political and legislative support to the government in any initiative addressing these issues, should it introduce similar legislation.
“Our political paths may differ, but the challenges faced by our people are shared, and so must be our resolve to address them,” Mufti stated, expressing hope for a positive response. “I look forward to your support so that we can move forward on these core issues together.”
