PDP flays transfer of officer in Pahalgam
The People’s Democratic Party has criticised the Jammu and Kashmir government for transferring a senior officer heading the Pahalgam Development Authority, which recently issued notices to around 300 violators, who had reportedly carried out illegal construction around the famous tourist spot of Pahalgam.
Earlier this week, the J&K government ordered the transfer of 22 senior officers, including Masarat Hashim, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Development Authority, Pahalgam, who has been posted as Deputy Labour Commissioner, (Central), J&K.
Senior PDP leader and Pulwama MLA Waheed Para said, “Just a day after CEO Pahalgam identified 300 illegal constructions violating the green belt, he was abruptly removed.”
“This unchecked destruction is pushing Pahalgam’s fragile ecosystem to the brink,” he added.
“Locals can’t rebuild homes, yet large-scale illegal construction thrives. Political interference and corruption are destroying one of Kashmir’s most precious ecological treasures,” Para said.
He also demanded that the government must reverse the officers transfer and “act against those endangering Pahalgam’s future and protect the environment, not the corrupt!”
PDP leader Iltija Mufti also criticised the move, stating that the NC government is condoning corruption and kickbacks for illegal permissions as well as punishing those who dare to shine a light on it. “Under whose behest was he shunted? What dirty nexus is at play here? ” she wrote on X.
However, an official said that recently the government had also received representation from the officer for the transfer citing personal issues.
