Plans for Thoise, Leh Airports reviewed
Chairman of the LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson, convened a meeting to address key issues related to civil aviation, including the commencement of civilian flight operations at Thoise Airport in Nubra, increasing flight frequency at Leh Airport and exploring the feasibility of evening civil flight services.
The meeting was attended by Leh Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhadeve, Air Commodore Sanjay Prabhu, Leh Director of the Airport Authority of India A. Umasankar, Group Captain Ajay Kumar and other officials.
A major focus of the discussions was on initiating civilian flight operations at Thoise Airport in Nubra. The Indian Air Force has granted clearance for the operations and Chairman Tashi Gyalson has directed the Airports Authority of India to begin the necessary procedures for transitioning the airport to civilian use. IndiGo Airlines and Air India have been encouraged to evaluate the feasibility of starting flights from Thoise.
For Leh Airport, the Indian Air Force has allocated a dedicated bay for civil aircraft, which will ensure smooth and efficient services. Airlines have also committed to increasing the number of flight slots from 18 to 22, significantly improving accessibility. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the urgent need for evening flight operations, increased flight frequency and solutions to parking constraints at the airport. Officials also discussed the possibility of direct flights to Leh from multiple sectors to enhance connectivity for both residents and tourists.
