Police foil daily wagers’ march to CM’s residence

The authorities on Monday foiled a march of Jammu and Kashmir Casual and Daily Wagers Form (JKCDF) to the Chief Minister’s residence at Gupkar Road in Srinagar.

On Monday, the workers gathered at Jal Shakti office lawns in Lal Chowk and tried to move towards the CM’s house to press for their demands, including regularisation of their jobs

The police, however, swung into action and prevented them from moving towards Gupkar road.

Public Health Engineering (PHE) daily wagers president Muzaffar Parray told reporters that the body had planned to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence, but the police detained the members.

He said the workers are not demanding stars from the authorities, but telling them to fulfil the promises made in the election manifesto regarding regularisation.

The protesting workers said the government failed to mention the daily wagers and casual labourers in last week’s Budget. He said nothing has been done for the daily wagers since 2014.
