Police launch drive against use of modified silencers, pressure horns
Jammu police have lanched a campaign against nuisance created by motorcycles fitted with modified silencer and pressure horns.
Pounichak police post seized four Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles equipped with modified silencers and pressure horns that were causing noise pollution and public nuisance in the area and also seized seven two-wheelers that were found plying on roads without documents and numbers plates.
“This action follows numerous complaints from residents disturbed by the loud noises produced by these modifications. Authorities have announced plans to extend enforcement efforts to other areas of rural zone of Jammu and to target individuals and businesses involved in selling and installing these unauthorised silencers and those who are using unregistered vehicles, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act,” an official said.
He said it is important to note that unauthorised modifications to vehicle silencers and plying vehicle without number plates and documents are illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act. “Such alterations not only contribute to noise pollution but can also reduce the efficiency of the bike and pose safety risks. Besides, these unregistered vehicle are widely used for numerous criminal activities, including snatching and drug peddling. Authorities are urging vehicle owners to refrain from making such modifications and are warning of strict penalties for those who continue to violate these regulations,” the official said.
