Police solve missing girl case, accused arrested

The Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Wednesday that they had successfully solved the case of a missing girl from Kokernag in Anantnag district, leading to the arrest of the accused and the recovery of the victim’s body.

According to the police, on March 16, the Kokernag Police Station received a missing person report concerning the girl, prompting an immediate investigation. During the course of the investigation, technical evidence suggested that the girl may have been abducted by Altaf Mir, a resident of Srinagar.

“As the investigation progressed, the accused was brought in for questioning, during which he confessed to the crime. Based on his disclosure, the victim’s body was recovered from his house in Lawaypora, Srinagar,” the police said.

Following the recovery of the body and the confession, additional sections 64 and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) were incorporated into the FIR to “reflect the nature of the crime appropriately.”

The police confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem and forensic examination to gather further evidence. “Further legal proceedings are underway to ensure a thorough investigation,” they added.

Assuring the public, the police said, “After a thorough investigation, the strictest punishment shall be ensured against the accused and all individuals involved in the crime. We remain committed to maintain law and order while ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.”
