Srinagar, July 22
A counterinsurgent-turned-policeman was shot dead by militants in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said.
They said that gunman fired at Abdul Rashid Dar, an ex-Ikhwani and now a policeman at a Furah Kulgam, wounding him critically.
“He was taken to a hospital immediately where he was declared as brought dead on arrival,” an official said.
An official at the GMC Anantnag said he had two bullets in chest and one in abdomen.
Initial reports suggest that Dar was posted in Srinagar.
Meanwhile, the area where the shooting took place has been cordoned off and searches have been launched to trace the attackers.
