Jammu, April 10

At the time of lockdown when people of Jammu and Kashmir are dependent on the broadband as there is no 4G mobile internet in the Union Territory, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continued to harass people with their interrupted services.

In the absence of 4G mobile internet in Jammu and Kashmir, people are totally dependent on the broadband to work from home at the time of the lockdown in the country, but the government-run telecom operator has taken its customers for granted with its disrupted services.

The poor speed of the internet and the disrupted connection irks people, who are working from home and students are dependent on the internet to continue their studies during this crucial time.

“I am using BSNL Broadband for the last ten years, but the internet speed I am getting for last 7-8 months was terrific. The worst part is that I have to lodge a complaint of fault in every fortnight and now during the lockdown, the company has started closing the complaint without rectifying the fault,” said Ankush Khajuria, a resident of Roop Nagar.

“We understand the sensitivity of the situation, but if the private operators are working, why BNSL is taking privilege. If they don’t want to work, they should close its services during the lockdown,” he added.

People complain that the officials of the BSNL do not attend phone calls and even the name and mobile number the company provides—at the time of complaint booking—always remained switched off.

“They are taking advantage of the situation and their monopoly. They know that customer cannot go to exchange due to lockdown,” said Sahil Sharma, another customer at Bantalab.

“We are told by our office to work from home, but it is impossible without the internet. We are paying a huge amount for broadband every month, but BSNL is taking advantage of its monopoly,” he added.

As the Mobile internet was snapped in J&K on August 5 last year, people were completely dependent on broadband services in the newly formed Union Territory. Though, Reliance Jio has also started its Fiber services in J&K, but it is yet to reach many parts of the city.
