Poppy straw seized in Kathua

Kathua/Jammu, August 1

A truck jumped a railway barrier near an Army camp in Kathua district, prompting a search which led to the seizure of the vehicle along with 8-kg poppy straw, officials said on Sunday. The driver escaped taking advantage of the darkness and efforts are on to nab him.

The truck on its way to Punjab. The driver took a diversion on noticing a checkpoint on the Jammu-Pathankot highway near Janglote Army camp, but was caught.

The poppy straw was found concealed in the tool box of the truck. A case has been registered and further probe is on, officials added. — PTI

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
