Portal launched to create database of 2800 private schools

Fixes March 10 deadline for schools to register, upload information I CEOs to create helpdesks

To ensure smooth mechanism for monitoring the functioning of private schools as and for quick disposal of their applications in various matters, the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has launched a portal for creating database of private schools of Jammu Province. There are more than 5,000 private schools in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Around 4,38,115 students have been enrolled in 2,816 private schools in Jammu Division.

Sources said the database in the new portal would carry information of all private schools affiliated with the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE)/Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)/Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE) regarding infrastructure, employee details, fee details, facilities etc which are mandatory for creating an efficient mechanism for monitoring of private schools.

Sources added that all private schools (all boards) having either any one or all classes from pre-primary to Class XII are directed to register themselves on the portalschedujammu.nic.in/pvtschool. The schools were told to upload necessary certificates like recognition certificate, affiliation certificate, building safety certificate etc. The school directorate has fixed March 10, 2020 deadline for all private schools of Jammu region to upload the information.

Sources further said the Chief Education Officers (CEOs) have also been directed to create a helpdesk in their respective offices for redressal of complaints against private schools functioning in Jammu Division. The DSEJ has instructed the CEOs to nominate a nodal officer for the redressal and timely disposal of these complaints.

All Joint Directors have been told to take regular review of redressal of the complaints and send reports to the school directorate. The complaints can also be sent to the email id grievance.pvtscha@gmail.com. In 2018, total 324 private schools were identified by the school directorate who had not submitted the requisite certificates but also provided incomplete information to the school directorate. Of 324, 70 schools were in Jammu district followed by Kathua (58), Udhampur (32), Rajouri (31), Poonch (30), Doda (27), Samba (25), Reasi (22) Kishtwar (16) and Ramban (13).
