After being virtually snubbed by Raj Bhavan for assigning the charge of Registrar to an “ineligible” person, the University of Jammu (JU) today removed Professor RK Ganjoo from the post and deputed Professor Rajni Dhingra as the Registrar of the university.
In a rejig, some top positions in the administration have witnessed a reshuffle. An order in this regard was issued here late Friday evening.
According to an official order, the university said Professor Ganjoo, a 60-year-old, resigned from the post of Registrar.
Professor Dhingra of the home science department has been asked to function as the Registrar in addition to her existing duties till further orders.
A raging controversy surrounded the university’s decision taken on September 27, when it had removed Dr Meenakshi Kilam from the charge of Registrar and given Professor Ganjoo the charge of Registrar.
Professor Ganjoo was declared “ineligible” for various tenure-based post advertised by the university from time to time.
Following complaints, Raj Bhavan had taken a serious note of the appointment of an overaged faculty member, Prof RK Ganjoo, as Registrar, and sought an explanation from Vice-Chancellor Professor Manoj K Dhar.
In another communication on November 22, the Raj Bhavan had asked the varsity administration “to assign the charge of Registrar to an eligible candidate”. It had also directed the university to expedite the process for appointment of the Registrar as per the prescribed norms and statutes of the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969.
According to the order, Professor Naresh Padha from the physics department has been asked to function as Dean Research Studies (DRS) in addition to his existing duties till further orders, thus relieving Professor Dhingra.
Professor Rajni Kant, department of physics, has been appointed as the new Controller of Examinations till further orders, thus relieving Professor Kulwant Singh. Professor Singh had been deputed as director, Directorate of Distance Education, and with his new appointment, Professor Rajni Kant will be relieved of his duties.
