Protest in Jammu over killings of 2 Punjabi workers in Srinagar
Jammu, February 8
The Rashtriya Bajrang Dal on Thursday took to the streets in Jammu, denouncing the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of two Punjabi workers in Srinagar. Several political parties also expressed their condemnation of the attack, demanding decisive action against the involved terrorists and an enhanced security apparatus for the minority community in Kashmir.
Amritpal Singh, a resident of Amritsar, was shot point blank in the Shalla Kadal locality on Wednesday. Rohit (25), who sustained injuries in the firing, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
Members of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, led by their leader Rakesh Bajrangi, gathered in Jammu city to protest against terrorists, raising anti-Pakistan slogans and setting Pakistan’s flag on fire.
Rakesh Kumar, president of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, expressed concern over the resurgence of targeted killings, emphasising that the motive was to instill fear and compel non-locals to flee Kashmir. He attributed these acts to Pakistan and its terror infrastructure attempting to revive terrorism in the region. “The targeted killings have begun again. Two non-locals, including a Sikh and Hindu, were killed in targeted killing. The aim is to create fear and force non-locals to flee Kashmir. This won’t happen again,” Rakesh Kumar said.
Political parties, including the J&K Congress, also condemned the killings. J&K Congress’ senior vice-president and media in-charge Ravinder Sharma termed the attack as cowardly and highly condemnable.
“The party has expressed great concern over such incidents and asked the government to check such incidents at all costs by taking adequate measures and ensure the safety and security of all,” Sharma said.
J&K Congress’ working president Raman Bhalla said, “A befitting reply should be given to the perpetrators of heinous crime on innocent people. Kashmiris are sick of death and destruction unleashed by radicals. They wish to live in peace and pick up peaceful life and ensure no more Kashmiris or non-locals are killed by the terrorists.”
