Quarantined patients ransack Srinagar hospital

Those who have been quarantined at Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital in Srinagar ransacked the hospital and fled from there citing lack of healthcare facilities, officials said on Saturday.

At least 26 persons were put under quarantine at the hospital from Chattabal and Batamaloo localities of Srinagar, where four Covid positive cases were detected on Friday.

Patients were not happy with the healthcare facilities and complained to the medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Zakir Ahmad.

While the hospital authorities were working to sort out the issue, they damaged machines and other equipment installed in the hospital for Covid patients, officials said.

They said patients created ruckus and damaged the hospital. “They are close relatives and family members of positive case of Chattabal,” an official said.

“They even broke the window panes and fled on Saturday morning. The police have brought them back,” said Dr Ahmad.

Officials said the service of a doctor working on contractual basis had been terminated while another had been suspended for negligence.
