In a hit-and-run case, a ragpicker was mowed down by a rashly driven MUV in the Poonch House area of Jammu city on Monday night.
The disturbing video of the incident, which was caught on CCTV cameras in the area, went viral on social media on Tuesday, with residents demanding action against the accused driver.
According to the police, the incident took place around 11 pm when the rashly driven Bolero hit the ragpicker walking on the road. The deceased has been identified as Akhilash Prasad, a resident of Saleempur in Anchal area of Bihar.
The vehicle also suffered extensive damage as it overturned but the driver and other persons who were sitting inside the vehicle managed to escape from the spot.
“We have recovered two mobile phones and some documents from the car. We can’t say how many people were there in the car. The owner of the car is Akshay Sharma of Chowki Chowra,” a senior police official said.
