The Railways on Saturday said it has conducted the first loaded train trial run through Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) on Tunnel No. 1 and Anji Khad cable bridge.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a post on X, said, “First loaded train trial run through USBRL tunnel no. 1 and Anji Khad cable bridge.”

Today’s trial run follows another trial of an electric engine on India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge—the Anji Khad Bridge—in Reasi district this week.

According to railway officials, these trials are being conducted as part of the overall trials ahead of the launch of train services on the route.

Railway officials said the Commission of Railway Safety’s (CRS) inspection of the Katra-Reasi section of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla New BG Rail Link (USBRL) is also likely to take place in the next 15 days.

The CRS is the last step before the Railways can plan about the operation of trains on the route and the report will pave the way for train operation between Udhampur and Banihal, according to the officials.

The 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project was originally sanctioned in 1994-95. With the completion of the 17-km Reasi-Katra section, the rail service from Udhampur to Baramulla is set to become a reality.
