Rajouri braces up with more quarantine facilities

Till Sunday, 618 residents with travel history of foreign nations or other parts of the country, have been placed under quarantine in Rajouri district.

“Out of these 618, 59, including four women, are under institutional quarantine at five centres in Rajouri,” the District Health Officer said.

As many as 17 samples have been sent for testing at Jammu. Reports for three have been received out of which one is positive, the officer maintained.

Three more quarantine centres have been established in Rajouri district, including one at Girls Hostel, Manjakot (60 beds); Hotel Tariq Residency (24 beds) and at Girl’s HSS at Darhal (12 beds). Already, a 1,000 beds facility is available at 32 centres in the entire district.

As three persons tested positive from Manjakot tehsil, including a retired doctor, his son and a student, the administration has taken stringent measures and has declared their habitations as red zones.

“Screening of the red zone area people (first contacts) will be conducted on Monday and later people of buffer zones will be screened,” said Mohammed Nazir Sheikh, District Magistrate (DM).

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and Tehsildar Kotranka, has claimed that necessary funds have not yet been released for the welfare of persons to be quarantined.

Block Medical Officer, Kandi (Kotranka) also alleged that due to bad road conditions and non-cooperation by the official at Deputy Commissioner Office, the health team could not visit Sokar village, where some persons are hiding their travel history.

Meanwhile, Waqar Lone and other social/ political activists of Kotranka/ Budhal area alleged that the ADC, Kotranka, had misbehaved with them, instead of listening to their grievances.

This came to light when an audio clipping of the ADC’s misbehavior went viral on social media. It was also brought to the notice of the DM.

District Magistrate, when contacted by The Tribune, assured of immediate measures/ action in this regard.
