After the abrogation of Article 370, the BJP is going to observe “martyrdom day” in connection with the 1953 Praja Parishad movement in a big way as party national general secretary Ram Madhav is especially coming to attend this event.

After landing in Jammu on Friday morning, Madhav, who is the general secretary in charge of J&K, will straightway go to border town of Jourian to pay tributes to the activists of the Praja Parishad who had laid down their lives in 1953.

Six Praja Parishad activists were killed in police firing during “Ek Vidhan, Ek Pardhan and Ek Nishan” agitation on January 31, 1953, which was launched in early 1950s for the total integration of J&K with the Indian Union.

Like other parts of the Jammu region, six Praja Parishad workers were killed in border village of Jourian when the police resorted to firing on those who were trying to hoist the National Flag by removing the flag of the erstwhile state of J&K. Six persons, namely Waryam Singh, Basant Ram, Baldev Singh, Mela Ram, Sain Singh, Nanak Chand and Trilok Singh, were killed in the police firing. Every year, people of this belt pay tributes to these martyrs.

Under the leadership of Prem Nath Dogra, the Praja Parishad had launched a massive movement against special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The Praja Parishad later merged with the Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS).

During his stay in Jammu, Ram Madhav will also address a seminar on the CAA at the BJP headquarters in Jammu, besides meeting senior leaders of the party.
