Ramban has first virus case, patient resident of Srinagar

Doda, April 23

A person, who was under administrative quarantine in Ramban district, has tested positive for the coronavirus. His sample was taken at District Hospital, Doda, also called Associated Hospital, Government Medical College, Doda.

The person belongs to the Nowshera area of Srinagar and has a travel history to New Delhi. He had illegally crossed over to Jammu and Kashmir. After entering the Union Territory, he travelled in a truck to Chanderkot in Ramban district on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, where the police caught him with other persons, who were hiding in the vehicle.

“All eight persons, including the driver of the truck, were picked up and put in administrative quarantine at Batote. From there, the said person was brought for sample collection along with a few others to the GMC, Doda, on Tuesday. The samples were sent to Command Hospital, Udhampur, from where the reports were received on Wednesday night and they have been found positive,” said an official of the Doda administration.

This is the first positive virus case of Ramban district. He has been sent to the GMC, Jammu.

Since his reports have been received by the GMC, Doda, the administration in Doda has swung into action.

An official said the person had revealed to them that after sample collection at the GMC, Doda, he had bought snacks and soft drink from a shop near the hospital.

The area around Associated Hospital has been put under strict surveillance.
