Residents, mostly women, staged a protest at Ali Jan Road, near Eidgah, in the old city against water shortage in the area.

Eyewitnesses said protesters blocked Ali Jan Road due to which movement of traffic was affected.

“Despite repeated pleas, the government is not paying attention to our plight. We have been facing water shortage for a long time and the situation has become worse this summer,” said a protester from Firdous Colony, Eidgah.

The protesters relented after an assurance from officials that their problem will be looked into.

Last week, protest marches over water shortage were taken out in the Habbakadal and Batamaloo areas. The residents had blocked roads and appealed to the authorities to address the problem.
