Jammu, July 17
The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), Jammu, has imposed a fine of Rs 1,26,000 on the traffic violators during the three-day drive launched in the city.
“Continuing the strict enforcement drive against the instances of overloading and overcharging in passenger vehicles and other major violations under the Motor Vehicle Act and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, team of MVD carried special enforcement drives under the special directions of Jammu RTO Pankaj Bhagotra,” an official informed.
The enforcement teams laid checkpoints at different locations including Bhagwati Nagar, Tawi Bridge and near the Railway Station. The focus of the drive was to check overloading and overcharging in passenger vehicles, particularly e-autos and e-rikshaws carrying Amarnath pilgrims.
“During the last three days, nearly 350 vehicles were checked for various offences including route permit violations, RC violations, overloading, without seat belt , without helmet, without SLD, etc., out of which 118 vehicles were e-challaned,” the official said.
A fine of Rs 1,26,000 was imposed on violators during these drives. In addition to issuing challans, the overload passenger vehicles were offloaded on spot and vehicles were arranged for the extra passengers for their respective destinations.
The enforcement teams comprised Rehana Tabassam, ARTO (Hqr), Mudasir Iqbal, ARTO, motor vehicles inspectors Vikas Srivats, Surinder Kumar and Jasbir Singh among others.
