Rs 844 crore allotted in Budget for rail services in J&K
Jammu and Kashmir has been allotted Rs 844 crore for rail services for 2025-26, railway officials said on Monday.
As per the official release, the Railways will be running two Vande Bharat trains covering three districts having four unique stoppages in Jammu and Kashmir. These four Amrit stations coming up at a cost of Rs 292.5 crore are being developed at Budgam, Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Udhampur in Jammu region.
Officials also said that 28 stations have been provided wifi network, while six escalators and five lifts have been added since 2014.
Railways said Jammu Tawi station is being redeveloped at a cost of Rs 259 crore. According to Railway officials, they are working on second entry station building for which structure, plastering and flooring works are done and final finishing is in advanced stage. About the status of the main entry station building, they said design and drawings are complete, with utility shifting in progress. The Railways is all set to connect Kashmir with the rest of the country through a rail link as the Northern Circle Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) gave his go ahead paving the way for the first train to start operations soon.
