GC Murmu, Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has undone a major injustice heaped on the youth seeking government jobs by revoking SRO 202 — which had made five years’ probationary period mandatory for new jobseekers — turning the idea of one nation, one Constitution into a reality.

While the youth have been liberated from uncertainties regarding their jobs, more significantly Murmu has freed them of the curse tagged with government recruitment since 2015.

Then Governor NN Vohra had written to the BJP-PDP government that this was “discriminatory and unconstitutional.” Having made the correction now, the government will also do justice to the already recruited by reducing their probationary period to two years.

The historic injustice was undone when the Administrative Council that met yesterday took the decision that SRO 202 would not be applicable for new recruitments in J&K.

It is a historic decision, rekindling hope among the youth that they may have dignity in their job, and not live in uncertainty for five years. Murmu has done what the state governments could not do during their tenure.
