Search op launched as guard opens fire
A Village Defense Guard (VDG) in Kishtwar district fired multiple shots in the forest area on Tuesday after spotting suspicious movement, prompting a massive search operation by security forces.
The incident occurred early in the morning when the VDG, stationed in the Kuntwara area, observed unidentified individuals in the forest. He fired shots in the air to alert the authorities and immediately informed the security forces.
A joint search operation by the J&K Police and Army was launched in the forest are to detect the movement of terrorists. The area has been a target for militants, with two VDG members having been killed by ultras in the same forest last month.
The security grid in the region has been tightened months ago after there were reports that terrorists were hiding in the forest areas of Kishtwar and adjoining Doda district following multiple attacks security forces.
