Following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, senior police officials on Wednesday conducted a security audit of popular tourist spots in the Jammu region, which attract thousands of visitors annually.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Shridhar Patil, visited the tourist destinations of Patnitop, Nathatop, and Sanasar. These locations are characterised by their isolated settings and surrounding dense forest areas.

Senior police officials from Ramban district accompanied Patil. He engaged with local residents to discuss the security situation amidst heightened tensions in the aftermath of the terror attack.

The police officials also undertook a detailed evaluation of the existing security measures at key tourist locations. They discussed additional measures to be taken and explored ways to improve collaboration among stakeholders.

Sanasar, a picturesque meadow situated near Patnitop, is considered a relatively isolated location. Prior to the Pahalgam attack, there was minimal to no security presence in the area.

The official stated that the DIG emphasised the importance of ensuring the safety and comfort of visitors. “The police officials also discussed strategies to enhance coordination between the police and civil administration, improve surveillance, and maintain law and order, particularly during the anticipated tourist rush season,” the official added.

Nathatop, another location in close proximity to Patnitop, is renowned for its verdant landscapes and distant views of snow-capped mountains.

DIG Patil was accompanied by the SSP Ramban, DSP Headquarters Ramban, SHO Batote, SHO Kud, and representatives from the Patnitop Development Authority and the Tourism Department.
