Security tightened across Jammu after Delhi blast

In the wake of the recent bomb blast in Delhi and its links with Kashmir, the Jammu region has been placed on high alert, with police intensifying security measures across mountainous and border areas.

Check-points have been established at various locations, and Village Defence Guards (VDGs) have been put on alert, particularly in areas close to the International Border and other sensitive zones.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba, Virender Singh, chaired an interaction meeting with VDG members at District Police Lines (DPL) Samba to review the prevailing security scenario.

“The meeting aimed to sensitise VDG members about the current situation and brief them on their duties and responsibilities. The SSP emphasised their vital role in ensuring peace and maintaining close coordination with police and other security forces,” a police statement said.

The SSP highlighted ongoing weapon handling and firing practice sessions being conducted to enhance the operational readiness of VDGs. He directed officers to hold such training sessions regularly to ensure preparedness.

Meanwhile, to strengthen security coordination among various agencies, Ramban SSP Arun Gupta convened a joint security review meeting attended by senior officials from the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles units (12 RR, 23 RR, 48 RR, 11 Sector RR), CRPF battalions (166 and 84), and central intelligence agencies.

The meeting reviewed the security of vital installations, training for VDGs, actions against associates of anti-national elements (ANEs) and over-ground workers (OGWs), and arrangements at newly opened tourist destinations.

Discussions also covered fortification of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), winter counter-insurgency strategy, monitoring of social media and discreet communication apps misused by anti-national elements, and the conduct of mock drills to assess response readiness.

SSP Gupta underscored the need for seamless coordination, proactive intelligence sharing, and enhanced surveillance to maintain peace and stability during the winter months.

In addition, police in Kishtwar and Doda have instructed all hotels and guest houses to promptly report suspicious persons and submit Form C on the day of arrival through the designated portal. Establishments have been directed to provide accurate details of guests, including passport and visa information, and ensure functional CCTV cameras at reception and entry/exit points.
