The J&K administration in committed for production of quality silkworm seed and efforts will be made to increase the production capacity of the seed stations for achieving self-sufficiency. This was disclosed by Sericulture Director Ajaz Ahmad Bhat during his visit to the basic seed station at Mirgund here. During his visit, he inspected various mulberry nurseries, farms, and silkworm seed units.
“The primary objective of the visit was to closely monitor and assess the ongoing developmental works and overall functioning of the Mirgund seed station,” a government spokesman said.
The director asked officials to work on mission mode in order to achieve all the developmental targets and gear up for extensive mulberry plantation drive for making the leaf reserves readily available to the silkworm rearers for ensuing rearing season apart from relentlessly striving for quality silkworm seed production.
Bhat also asked the staff to increase the seed production capacity for achieving self-sufficiency in silkworm seed production and abundant mulberry foliage in the form of leaf bank in J&K.
