Seminar held for trade unions on provisions of four labour codes
Chaired by Regional Provident Fund Commissioner–I Sumeet Singh
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Regional Office Jammu, organised a seminar to brief and sensitise representatives of various trade unions on the provisions of the four labour codes enacted by the Parliament.
The event was convened with the objective of enhancing awareness among worker representatives and facilitating informed engagement with the evolving labour and social security framework.
The seminar was chaired by the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner–I, Sumeet Singh, who delivered an overview of the legislative reforms undertaken through the following enactments: the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020 and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. The RPFC-I highlighted that these codes consolidate and rationalise multiple central labour laws with a view to simplifying compliance, strengthening social security and improving working conditions for employees across diverse sectors.
The Code on Wages, 2019, was discussed in the context of minimum wages, payment of wages and standardisation of definitions; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020, was explained with reference to dispute resolution mechanisms and promotion of harmonious industrial relations; the Code on Social Security, 2020, was elaborated upon in relation to coverage under provident fund, pension and insurance schemes; and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, was presented with focus on statutory duties of employers regarding safety, health and working conditions at establishments.
