Senior official, JCO, sergeant among seven killed in LoC shelling
A senior Jammu and Kashmir official, an IAF sergeant and a junior commissioned officer (JCO) were among seven killed when the Pakistan army opened artillery shelling in Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur and Jammu.
Raj Kumar Thapa, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, and his two staff members were seriously injured when an artillery shell hit his official residence in the town.
The injured were taken to the Government Medical College, Rajouri, where Thapa succumbed to the injuries. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the bereaved family and expressed his condolences.
An infant, Aisha Noor (2), and Mohd Shohib (35) were killed in a separate shelling incident the industrial area of Rajouri.
A sergeant at the Udhampur Air Force station was killed when a suspected projectile hit the area. The deceased has been identified as Surinder Kumar. Also, Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was killed during indiscriminate shelling in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch.
A 55-year-old woman, Rashida Bi, lost her life when a mortar shell hit her house at Kanghra-Galhutta village in Mendhar of Poonch district.
Another civilian, Zakir Hussain (45), was killed and two others, including a girl, were injured in shelling at Kheri Keran village of Bantalab in Jammu district.
As many as 21 persons, including three Army personnel, have been killed in Rajouri, Poonch and Jammu district since the escalation.
