The Jammu police have tracked down 10 Rohingya associated with the Tablighi Jamaat on Wednesday evening. They were hiding in the Karyani Talab area on the outskirt of Jammu and are associated with the Nizamuddin congregation.

The association of the Rohingya with the Tablighi Jamaat has added to the woes of the administration because the foreign immigrants live in one of the biggest slum areas on the outskirts of Jammu city.

“Four of the traced Rohingya are suffering from viral load fever,” a source said, adding, “All 10 persons have been sent to a quarantine centre for observation”.

The source said: “The authorities will wait for some time to declare the areas inhabited by the Rohingya as hotbeds,” the source said.

Police sources said apart from attending the Nizamuddin Markaz, the Rohingya had participated in religious congregations at Mewat in Haryana and Hyderabad.

Earlier, the administration intensified the campaign to track down the Tablighi Jamaat members who had attended the congregation.

After raids in various areas, the police traced 10 Tablighi Jamaat members and sent them to a quarantine centre on Wednesday. Seven of them were traced to Kathua and three to Jammu district.

Sources said the authorities had started criminal proceedings against the Jamaat members for concealing their travel history and mingling with people.

“We had set a deadline to reveal the travel history. Now, the campaign to track the Tablighi Jamaat activists has been intensified and criminal proceedings will be started against those who will be traced,” said a senior police officer. He said, “Special teams have been constituted to trace the suspects.”

Sources said the authorities had already prepared a list of 850 coronavirus suspects, who had directly or indirectly come in contact with people who had attended the Nizamuddin congregation. They said teams had been deputed to trace all suspects. The administration has already completely sealed the Bhatindi, Sunjwan, Gujjar Nagar, Hyderpura and Lakarmandi areas.

Fear grips border belt

Fear has gripped the border belt of Samba district after the police traced two Tablighi Jamaat activists to the border town of Ramgarh. The duo, hiding in a mosque in the Doulat Chak area of Ramgarh, had concealed their travel history. It was after information by locals that the police traced both of them and sent for quarantine after a medical check-up. As the duo had hidden their travel history, an FIR under Section 269 of the IPC has been registered against them at the Ramgarh police station
