Shah Faesal steps down as president of JKPM; Feroz Peerzada to succeed

Shah Faesal, a former IAS officer who announced he was quitting public administration in 2018 to launch his own political party—-the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement—has stepped down from his role as the president of that party.

Feroz Peerzada will succeed Faesal in that role. Faesal launched the political party early last year. His resignation from the services however was not accepted despite his foray into politics. Faesal was one of several leaders detained under the Public Safety Act on August 5 last year when the central government read down Article 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution that gave special status to the now former state, and split the state into two union territories.

Faesal was released from detention in June this year after Jammu and Kashmir Administration dropped charges under the Public Safety Act.

There have been reports that Faesal is likely to rejoin public administration.
