Situated within the Pirpanchal mountain range, Shopian often experiences significant snowfall. During the meeting, a government spokesman said, “The DC evaluated the availability of snow clearance equipment, the stock status of essential supplies, and action plans formulated by departments concerned to mitigate disruptions in services during snowfall.”

He urged the officers to develop a comprehensive and detailed snow clearance plan to ensure a swift response and minimise inconvenience to the public. “He emphasised the importance of enhanced coordination among departments involved in snow clearance operations, suggesting the establishment of a control room for better management,” the government spokesman said adding that he stressed the need to maintain uninterrupted power, water, and other essential services during adverse weather conditions.

The DC, the spokesman said, instructed the Power Development Department to adhere strictly to the electricity schedule and prevent any unscheduled power outages. He directed the Chief Medical Officer and Roads & Buildings Department to activate control rooms at the district level.
