The Srinagar Municipal Corporation(SMC) conducted prompt sterilisation drives in the Hyderpora and Natipora areas after two cases tested positive for Covid-19 a day ago.

Officials said a fully equipped team of 50 members took to these areas for conducting fumigation and prescribed chemical spraying around 300-meter radius of these areas.

All connecting lanes, bylanes, mohhallas, mosques in Natipora and Hyderpora were sanitised under the supervision of ward officers, sanitary supervisors and inspectors concerned after the news came that two persons had tested positive, which created panic among residents.

“The SMC is continuously conducting sterilisation drives with an aim to sanitise and disinfect all areas, including hospitals’ quarantines, ration depots, ATMs, banks and other essential service locations within the limits of Srinagar city,” said SMC Commissioner Gazanfar Ali.

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu today tweeted about the ban on constructions within the municipal limits as there were complaints that some people were taking advantage of the lockdown and were carrying on the construction work.

In his tweet, Junaid Mattu said, the SMC was notifying a complete ban on all sorts of construction within the SMC limits immediately and till further orders.

he requested the Jammu and Kashmir police to help in halting the construction work at Mujigund.

In this regard, the officials said an order was issued immediately by the SMC Joint Commissioner (Planning) that read, ” It has been observed that during lockdowns, people prefer illegal/ unauthorised constructions, encroachments, and deviations by taking advantage of the situation”.

Therefore, in view of the current Covid-19 crisis, it has been announced that during the national lockdown period, all ongoing construction activities (including sanctioned permissions) within the Srinagar Municipal Corporation limits would be banned with immediate effect from today till further orders.Any violation in this regard will be strictly dealt within the ambit of law.”
