The suspension of mobile Internet and erratic broadband in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir continue to disrupt the working of the Transport Department, as neither the vehicle dealers nor the consumers are able to have an access to the services of the department.
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Jammu and other districts of the UT are facing lot of hardship these days, as most of the services have been digitalised in the department and people are unable to access the services.
The mobile Internet services were snapped in Jammu and Kashmir on late night of August 4, before the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories and abrogation of Article370.
“Hundreds of people come daily for queries only, as they are unable to access the services because of the Internet suspension. We have no other option but to send them to the cyber cafes near the office, but that too is overburdened and the broadband also has erratic speed,” said an employee of the RTO, Jammu.
“I had brought a new vehicle on October 8, but due to the Internet problem my temporary number was generated on October 15. I later submitted my documents for registration on October 20, but till now, my file has not been updated with the RTO, due to erratic Internet,” said Rajesh Sharma, a customer. “Dealers and officials of the RTO, both are blaming it on Internet, but despite spending lakhs of rupees to buy a car, I cannot drive it now as it’s temporary number has expired and the vehicle is yet to be registered,” he added.
