Pakistan’s troops shelled Indian posts in Kashmir’s Kupwara and Jammu’s Poonch on Saturday, killing one soldier, defence sources said.

The soldier was killed when Pakistan used medium mortar’s to shell posts at Kupwara’s Nowgam, the sources said.

Two other soldiers were also wounded in the shelling.  Both soldiers are stable, sources said.

Pakistan has been intermittently shelling Indian posts along the Line of Control at Poonch since Saturday morning.

A defence spokesperson said there has been firing and intense mortar shelling from Pakistan troops in Shahpur, Kirni and Degwar sectors intermittently on Saturday—first in the morning and then later in the evening.

The assault was unprovoked, the defence spokesperson said, adding that the Indian Army had given them a “befitting reply”.
