Srinagar, August 12

A jawan of the Army’s counter-insurgency unity and a local militant commander were killed in a gunfight in Pulwama this morning. Another soldier was injured in the gunfight.

In a separate incident, militants targeted an Army patrol along the Baramulla-Srinagar highway in north Kashmir, injuring a soldier.

The gunfight at Kamrazipora in Pulwama broke out when joint teams of forces launched an operation in the area following an input about militants’ presence there.

“Two soldiers were injured in the gunfight while Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Azaad Lalhari was killed,” sources said. The injured soldiers were taken to a hospital in Srinagar where one of them, Sowar Jilajeet Singh Yadav of UP, succumbed to his injuries.
