Sopore police book three under PSA for anti-national activities

Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday booked three people under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in north Kashmir’s Sopore as part of crackdown on subversive and anti-national elements, said a police spokesperson.

He said the Sopore Police have booked Irfan Mohiuddin Dar, Mohd Asif Khan and Gowhar Maqbool Rather “for their continued involvement in activities prejudicial to the security and sovereignty of the Union Territory.”

According to the spokesperson, despite being previously booked in multiple FIRs under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and facing repeated preventive actions, the trio continued to operate discreetly—using encrypted VOIP platforms and VPN networks to maintain contact with terrorist handlers across the border.

“They were also involved in clandestinely motivating local youth into anti-national activities,” he said.

Following sustained surveillance and dossier preparation, detention orders were issued by the competent authority, he added.

“All three have been formally detained and lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail,” the official said, adding, “This action underscores Sopore Police’s “uncompromising stance against anti-national elements.”

The police spokesperson urged the public “to remain vigilant and cooperate in safeguarding the hard-earned peace of the Valley.”

“Sopore Police expresses gratitude to the people, whose support continues to empower our efforts,” he added.
