Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday said the MLAs should actively participate in the House proceedings with complete information of rules and procedures.
He was addressing the valedictory session of three-day orientation programme held for newly elected MLAs of J&K Assembly at the Assembly Complex in Jammu.
A spokesperson said the Speaker extended gratitude to all participating members, especially those newly-elected, for ensuring their participation and listening patiently to the resource persons.
He hoped that this orientation programme will help the MLAs to deeply understand the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the house. He reiterated that it was the vigilant legislature that can make executive accountable of its duties and responsibilities.
The Speaker emphasised on the “newly elected members to behave in a dignified manner in the house and follow the parliamentary democracy in true letter and spirit.” He hoped that the newly elected members will take full advantage of the training programme for ensuring their effective role in the Assembly, the spokesperson said.
The Speaker also thanked the MPs and PRIDE team for conducting the orientation programme. Earlier, former MoS, Satya Pal Singh, delivered lectures on Parliamentary Privileges, Customs, Conventions and Etiquettes.
Director Pride, Lok Sabha Secretariat, PK Mallick, also gave details on the literal meaning of Privileges and its scope in safeguarding the status and protocol of MLAs.
