The first event, a tug of war, was held between staff members and students followed by a friendly cricket match. Batting first, the staff scored a mammoth total of 249 runs for the loss of 5 five wickets in 20 overs. In reply, students could score only 43 runs in five overs when the match was stopped due to rain. Later, teachers were declared winners on D/L rule.
Army holds rally on cleanliness
In an initiative to make people aware regarding the concept of ‘swachhata’ and to imbibe the spirit of hygiene and sanitation, the Army organised a rally, plogging and lecture at Dharmari. The campaign started with a lecture to make the villagers and students aware about plastic-free zone, waste disposal management and to motivate locals to adopt cleanliness measures. The students were educated about the benefits of cleanliness, prevention of various communicable diseases and the threat of epidemic due to unhealthy and unhygienic environment.
11 schools get extension
The Directorate of School Education, Jammu, has granted ermission/recognition/extension in favour of 11 private schools of Jammu province. The same was done after these institutes fulfilled all the required formalities like building safety certificate, fire safety certificate, no enhancement of fees without the approval of the fee fixation committee, textbooks to be prescribed by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE), etc. A total of 11 private schools in different districts of Jammu division were granted by permission/recognition/extension by the school directorate.
Street play organised
With a purpose to sensitise villagers regarding the ill-effects of drug addiction, a team of 10 students of the extension unit of the MIER College of Education along with their unit incharge Suman Devi on Thursday organised a nukkad natak on the theme ‘drug addiction’ at its adopted Gharota village near Bhalwal. During the visit, the students interacted with locals, including children and youth, regarding causal factors leading to the misuse or overuse of drugs and its consequences. Dr Adit Gupta, Principal, MIER College, appreciated the efforts of the unit and urged them to continue with such outreach programmes in the future.
Quiz competition held
The Bharat Vikas Parishad, J&K Prant, conducted ‘Bharat Ko Jano’ quiz competition. The qualifying round of the competition was conducted on various topics viz religion, culture, history, geography, politics and constitution, sports and current affairs, etc, in junior and senior categories. A total of 17 teams in junior and senior categories took part in the competition. In the junior category, Punjab (South) bagged the first position while second and third positions were secured by Haryana South and Delhi (Central). In the senior category, Haryana (South), Punjab (West) and Delhi (West) secured the first three positions.
Cleanliness drive
‘Run to make India Litter-Free’ event was organised at Army Public School, Udhampur (senior wing) with the concept of making the surroundings clean by picking up plastic and other waste material. Apart from students of the school, teaching, administration staff and vice-principal participated in the event under the leadership of Sanjeev Kumar, Principal, APS, Udhampur. The plogging run covered approximately 5-km area starting from T-Morh market to JNE Complex.
